Agree Or Disagree? Indians Calling Air Hostesses ‘Servants’ Sparks Online Debate

In today’s digital age, social media has the power to turn personal experiences into national discussions, and this time, it’s sparking reflection on how passengers treat airline staff. A recent tweet by an entrepreneur has sparked a heated debate on how some passengers behave with air hostesses during flights. Scroll down to know what happened.

How Indians Treat Air Hostesses

Taking to his X handle, entrepreneur and traveller Priyesh Sharma (@Kenu73)  reacted to a reel shared by an air hostess who spoke about the rude behaviour some passengers display toward flight attendants. In his post, Sharma said he came across the video on Instagram, where the air hostess shared her experiences and explained the right way to treat cabin crew members.

He added that the comments under the reel were shocking, with the very first one reflecting a bigger issue in India — how humility and empathy are often linked to money. Sharma pointed out that just because someone pays for a service doesn’t mean they own the people providing it, adding that basic courtesy and respect should always come naturally. In his post, Priyesh also shared the screenshot of a horrible comment made on an air hostess’s reel.

The comment said, “You are a servant on the aircraft. So you need to obey the passenger’s demand. You are not providing food for free. The airline is paying your salary. Also, the passenger is paying for the food. So there’s nothing wrong with obeying the passenger’s demand.”

Netizens React To The Post

This post quickly went viral, dividing the internet and sparking a heated debate. In the comment section, many people shared their opinions on how to treat air hostesses. Here’s what they said —

One user wrote, “The problem is the job itself. The job is to serve the passengers, isn’t it? If their demand seems like an order to you, then it’s you who is the problem, that you don’t know it’s your job to serve. And also respect is a two-way street.”

Another user commented, “Money doesn’t buy manners. That’s what most people fail to understand.”

One netizen added, “We need to get away with this sense that anyone who’s being paid to do our work is our servant.”
