Bengaluru-Mangaluru-Madgaon Vande Bharat Planned To Improve Multi-City Connectivity

Good news for train travellers as they could soon have a faster journey between Bengaluru and Goa. Yes, you heard it right! Recently, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced a new Vande Bharat service planned for the Bengaluru-Mangaluru-Madgaon route. Read on to know more!

Bengaluru-Mangaluru-Madgaon Vande Bharat

As per a report by News18, the proposed service will run through the Western Ghats and along the Konkan coast. It will mark an important addition to India’s expanding semi-high-speed rail network. The announcement was made during Ahwini Vaishnaw’s recent visit to Bengaluru, where he inaugurated a high-speed train manufacturing facility at BEML. As per the reports, the upcoming Vande Bharat train, which will connect Bengaluru and Mangaluru, with an extension to Madgaon in Goa, is being seen as a much-awaited boost for the rail network in the region.

The route is particularly known because it traverses the scenic yet technically demanding Western Ghats, where steep gradients have long caused operational challenges. As per the Railway Minister, those technical problems have now been addressed, making way for the launch of the service.

A major highlight of the announcement is the planned extension to Goa’s Madgaon, which would bring three major travel hubs, Bengaluru, Mangaluru and Goa, together. The minister also stated that the new service could be added to the existing Mangaluru-Madgaon Vande Bharat Express, which covers 319 km in around 4.5 hours.

The proposed corridor is being viewed as a major boost for tourism, linking destinations that attract both domestic and international visitors.

Key Features Of The New Vande Bharat

Bengaluru remains a major urban gateway and one of India’s biggest travel hubs, often referred to as the Silicon Valley of India. Mangaluru, known as the gateway to coastal Karnataka, offers access to quieter beaches, historic temples and a rich coastal culture, making it increasingly popular with travellers seeking alternatives to crowded tourist circuits.

The proposed Vande Bharat service is expected to offer the modern features which have become known for speed, comfort and upgraded passenger amenities. The features include: Automatic plug doors, the KAVACH train collision avoidance system, Reclining ergonomic seats, CCTV surveillance, Onboard Wi-Fi, and Vacuum-based bio-toilets.
