Set amid the cool, green hills of Vythiri in Wayanad, the Wayanad Honey Museum is one of those places that quietly surprises you. At first glance, it sounds simple—a museum about honey. But once you step inside, you realise it’s a warm, unhurried journey into the world of bees, forests, food, and Kerala’s deep connection with nature.
This Sweet Stop In Wayanad Is Asia’s Largest Honey Museum
Often called Asia’s largest honey museum, this unique space blends learning, tasting, culture, and leisure, making it a perfect stop whether you’re travelling with family, friends, or even on your own. The Wayanad Honey Museum aims to explain the origins of honey and its significance.
It shows the history of honey from its creation, with flowers blooming in forest valleys, bees collecting nectar, and beekeepers carefully harvesting honey without harming the environment. The Honey Museum is the highlight of the experience. Here, you can learn about the lives and communications of bees as well as the process of extracting honey and the different kinds of honey. After honey is extracted from the hive, what happens? The Honey processing unit shows you exactly that.

Pure Honey, Forest Flowers, And Friendly Bees
The museum goes beyond honey to showcase Kerala’s cultural roots. Traditional artefacts, tools, and exhibits reflect how closely life in Kerala has always been tied to nature. And if you’re travelling with kids, the children’s park gives them space to play and unwind. Honey tasting is the highlight for a lot of visitors. Here, you can taste a variety of honeys that come from the valleys and forests of Wayanad.
Each variety tastes different, some floral, some deep and earthy, some light and delicate. Sanjana Shenoy, Chief Sub-Editor, Curly Tales, drawing from her personal experience, shares, “It’s a museum you enter for the honey, but you leave with a new-found fascination for the bees. Informative and delicious, and don’t forget to take home the beeswax lip balm and floral honeys.”
The Wayanad Honey Museum is proud of the honey it offers, and with good reason. Every drop of honey here is 100% raw and unfiltered, with no additives or heat treatment. The collection is impressive, ranging from everyday favourites to rare, premium finds. Wild honey, raw honey, tulsi honey, lychee flower honey, rosewood honey, puttu honey, stingless bee honey, and sidr (flower) honey are a few common types.
If you’re in Wayanad and want a simple, meaningful, and memorable experience, this honey museum should be on your list.
