City Palace in Udaipur is one of the must-visit places in the city. One interesting fact about this palace is that it isn’t just a monument; it’s still owned by the Mewar royal family and is home to their descendants today. The palace complex is divided into different sections, including the main palace, a museum, and a hotel. This place also has some souvenir shops and unique saree shops that feature a range of sarees made with natural items.  Safe to say, the palace is quite grand, and exploring it requires a lot of walking.

Now, if you’re not keen to walk much, the palace has another fun highlight—the toy train. Known as the Mewar Express, this train offers a short and enjoyable ride around the palace grounds. While the toy train can’t enter the palace premises, it can still take you to the key highlights of the complex in just eight to ten minutes.

The train begins its journey near the main entrance of the palace. As it moves, you can explore spacious courtyards, grand walls, balconies and serene nature by the lake. This service in the City Palace is just perfect for parents with little kids, senior citizens, or anyone who wants to explore the palace without much effort. The price of this toy train is ₹50 per person (Indians) and ₹25 for kids.

The royal family of Udaipur is believed to be descendants of the Sun, and the palace’s design features elements reflecting this heritage. In the museum, you can see how the royal family lived, their battle armours, architecture, grand doors, and much more.

Here, you can also get the tourist guide, who will tell you about the rich history of the palace, generations and how the royal family lives now. Also, you can enjoy some delicious Indian food at the small restaurants and sit by the lake for the serene sunset.
