What Is The History Of Kartik Swami Temple?
If you love spiritual and scenic places, Kartik Swami Temple is a must-visit. On a hilltop over 10,000 ft high, it is the world’s highest shrine dedicated to Lord Murugan. The temple honours Lord Kartik, the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Devotees also call him Lord Muruga, Lord Murugan, or Lord Subramanya in different parts of India.
The temple has a fascinating story. Long ago, Lord Shiva asked his sons, Kartik and Ganesha, to circumambulate the universe seven times. Lord Kartik set off to circle the world, while Lord Ganesha simply walked around his parents, saying they were his universe. When Kartik returned and saw that Ganesha earned Shiva’s praise, he became angry. Legends say he left Kailash and arrived at Kronch Parvat, where the temple now stands.
Some believe Kartik stayed here, while others say he sacrificed his physical form to honour his parents. Another belief is that he later went to Srisailam in southern India, where he became known as Skanda.

How To Visit This Temple?

However, reaching to is stunning temple Uttarakhand feels like an adventure. From Kanakchauri village, you need to trek about 3 km and climb around 380 steps to reach it. On the way, you can enjoy amazing views of mountain peaks like Bandarpunch, Kedarnath Dome, and Chaukhamba. There is another trekking route from Chopta that gives a different but equally beautiful experience.
