Cabinet Approves ₹24,634-Crore Projects For Indian Railways
On Tuesday, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved four multi-tracking railway projects. The total cost is estimated at a whopping ₹24,634 crore. According to a report by India TV, these projects will cover 18 districts across Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Chhattisgarh. The plan will also expand the existing Indian Railways network by approximately 894 km. Additionally, these four projects will add 78.4 metric tonnes of new cargo capacity. The announcement was also made by Dhirendra Ojha, Principal Spokesperson of the Government of India, on X.
To make it simpler, here’s a breakdown of the four projects:
- Wardha-Bhusawal (3rd and 4th line): 314 km in Maharashtra
- Gondia-Dongargarh (4th line): 84 km across Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh
- Vadodara-Ratlam (3rd and 4th line): 259 km across Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh
- Itarsi-Bhopal-Bina (4th line): 237 km in Madhya Pradesh
Boosting Connectivity And Efficiency
As per a report by The Economic Times, the approved multi-tracking projects will significantly enhance connectivity to around 3,633 villages, covering a population of about 85.84 lakh. These projects will also benefit two aspirational districts: Vidisha and Rajnandgaon.
Reportedly, the increased line capacity will help improve mobility, operational efficiency, and the overall service of Indian Railways. The newly approved multi-tracking projects aim to streamline operations and reduce congestion across key routes. This project will allow more trains to run with more capacity for both passengers and goods! It’s clearly a good decision by the cabinet.
All in all, it’s clear that Indian Railways is working hard to boost its functionality. India’s first bullet train is nearing completion, and a superfast train between Bengaluru and Mumbai might also be on the cards. Recently, several reports stated that authorities are planning to introduce new sleeper Vande Bharat Express trains on new routes as well! All these developments make us wonder what other exciting upgrades Indian Railways is planning next.
