Govt Makes Lifetime Train Travel Free For Gallantry Award Winners & Eligible Family Members

India has made a landmark decision! The central government has now made an announcement stating lifetime free train travel for winners of gallantry awards from the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Certain categories of their family members will also benefit from this decision. Here’s everything you need to know.

Gallantry Award Winners To Get Free Train Travel

Gallantry awards are prestigious honours awarded by the government to personnel of the armed forces and police for exceptional acts of bravery and sacrifice. According to India TV, the central government has now decided to honour these award winners. They have approved lifetime free train travel for these recipients, along with certain categories of their family members. This decision undoubtedly marks a major welfare initiative for the nation’s heroes.

According to the revised rules notified by the Centre, the following categories now qualify for this facility:

• Gallantry award recipients: All personnel from the armed forces who have been awarded gallantry medals
• Spouses: The widow or widower of a deceased awardee. The facility will be available until remarriage
• Parents: In cases where the award was given posthumously and the recipient was unmarried, the parents will be eligible

Free Travel In AC Classes

According to India TV, the objective of this scheme is to ensure that the families of gallantry award winners, who have shown exceptional courage and bravery, continue to receive recognition and support. Under this facility, beneficiaries will be allowed lifetime free travel on Indian Railways along with one companion. Moreover, this facility will apply to First Class, Second AC, and AC Chair Car.

This scheme is effective immediately and will provide comfortable travel options to India’s gallantry award winners and their families. Plus, thousands of military families are expected to benefit from this initiative.

You should know that gallantry awards in India represent the country’s highest recognition for courage and bravery. These awards include Param Vir Chakra, Maha Vir Chakra, Vir Chakra, Ashoka Chakra, Kirti Chakra and Shaurya Chakra.
