We come bearing some good news for people in Mumbai! The city’s busiest business district could finally get the railway station commuters have long been waiting for! As per reports, a proposal has been submitted to build a new suburban railway station between Sion and Kurla on the Central Line, aiming to provide direct rail access to the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) and reduce last-mile travel hassles. Scroll on to know more about this.
Mumbai’s BKC Could Soon Get Better Rail Connectivity?
Despite being one of Mumbai’s biggest commercial hubs and home to thousands of offices, banks and business centres, BKC doesn’t have a suburban railway station of its own. This means thousands of commuters have to rely on buses, autos, cabs or Metro for the last leg of their journey. Well, this might change soon!
Mid-day reported that the proposed BKC railway station is slated to fill the gap in connectivity in the area for a long time and make commuting to the commercial hub easier. The plan is to build the station between Sion and Kurla on the Central Railway corridor, which will allow better connectivity to BKC and also help passengers travelling on the Central and Harbour lines through nearby interchanges.

How Will This Help Commuters?
The new station, if approved, could be a big change in the daily commute to BKC, reducing dependence on autos and taxis for last mile connectivity. It is also likely to ease congestion at Kurla station by distributing passenger traffic more effectively, while complementing upcoming Metro and pod taxi projects planned for the business district.
