The Hottest Country In India
As per a report by NDTV, the MeT official told the portal that Akola in Maharashtra is the hottest city in India with the temperature recorded at 46.9°C. While Nagpur and several other parts of Vidarbha reeled under a severe heatwave. Not only this, but heatwave conditions are expected to rise across parts of Maharashtra’s Vidarbha region till Tuesday. On Sunday, Akola recorded 46.9°C, the highest temperature in India, followed by cities like Amravati at 46.8°C in Maharashtra, as per the India Meteorological Department’s Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Nagpur. Additionally, Wardha witnessed 46.4°C, Yavatmal logged 46°C, and Nagpur 45.4°C.
Why Is Akola The Hottest City?
RMC scientist Dr Praveen Kumar told the portal that Akola, Amravati, Wardha, Yavatmal, Chandrapur and Nagpur experienced heatwave conditions, while several other districts reported above-normal temperatures. The continuous above-normal and persistently high temperatures over Vidarbha can be due to an anticyclonic circulation over Maharashtra and adjoining areas. At the same time, hot and dry northwesterly winds have been continuously affecting the region. Additionally, the absence of moisture incursion, weak western disturbances, and any significant weather systems have also contributed to the intensification of heat over the region. As per the Met department, heatwave conditions are likely to continue in a few other places in the region till Tuesday.
