The History Of Assam Tea

Tea plantations in Assam was started in the 19th century when British explorer Robert Bruce discovered wild tea plants growing along the Brahmaputra Valley. The British East India Company quickly saw the potential and started developing commercial tea gardens.

By the 1830s, the Assam Tea Company was up and running, and Assam soon became a major tea hub. Unlike Chinese tea, Assam tea comes from a special variety called Camellia sinensis var. Assamica. The Assam tea is loved for its bold flavour and colour.
