Vietnam Airlines To Cut Down Flights From April 1 Due To Ongoing Fuel Shortage

Tourists travelling across Vietnam may soon face major travel disruptions as airlines begin cutting flights due to the ongoing shortage of fuel supplies and rising costs. Read on for more information about the disruption.

Vietnam Airlines To Suspend Flights From April 1

As per a report by Logical India, from April 1, the national carrier Vietnam Airlines will suspend major domestic routes and cancel around 23 flights per week. The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam informed the portal that other budget airlines, like VietJet Aviation, are also reducing their services on selected routes as airlines attempt to save fuel and manage operational expenses. According to the news portal, officials said the steps are necessary to maintain important connectivity and stabilise airline operations. Many domestic as well as international tourists may experience fewer flight options, scheduling changes, and potential delays in the coming weeks. The development also reflects the growing effects of global tensions on travel and tourism.

The news portal also reported that Vietnam’s aviation regulator confirmed that the national carrier will reduce its domestic flight schedule from April 1st in response to the ongoing shortage of Jet A-1 aviation fuel. The affected routes will include connections from Hai Phong to Buon Ma Thuot, Cam Ranh, Phu Quoc, and Can Tho, as well as services linking Ho Chi Minh City with Van Don, Rach Gia, and Dien Bien.

Other airlines in the country are also reviewing flight schedules, adjusting frequencies and exploring other cost-saving measures to cope with increasing fuel prices. As per the news portal, authorities have indicated that airlines may introduce temporary fuel charges on certain international routes in order to manage higher operating costs.

Fuel Shortage Has Disrupted Supply To Vietnam

Vietnam heavily relies on imported aviation fuel, with a large share sourced from countries like China, Thailand, and Singapore. However, the ongoing fuel shortage due to the Middle East conflict has disrupted supply from some of these countries and tightened fuel availability across Asia. China, which usually plays an important role in regional fuel supply, recently moved to curb jet fuel exports to protect domestic energy reserves.
