What happens when a photoshoot stops being just another part of your holiday and actually becomes the reason for booking one? Welcome to “Pose-cation”, the latest travel trend where couples are planning entire getaways around getting those perfect pictures.

So, What Exactly Is A Pose-Cation?

According to data from Pickyourtrail, searches for photoshoot-led holidays have increased 10% year-on-year, suggesting that for many couples, the destination is no longer just somewhere to visit. It is also the backdrop for the memories they want to bring home.

A Pose-cation is pretty much what it sounds like: a vacation planned around a professional photoshoot. Instead of spending on a photoshoot at home and then planning a separate holiday, couples are combining the two.

And honestly, the appeal is easy to understand. Why settle for a studio backdrop when your photoshoot can happen against a Phuket sunset or a Bangkok skyline?

The trend is particularly picking up among honeymooners, who make up the largest share of Pose-cation bookings. But it is no longer limited to newlyweds. Couples are also choosing these trips for anniversaries, babymoons, pre-wedding shoots and even “just because” holidays.

Why Is The Pose-Cation Trend Taking Off?

One of the biggest reasons is simple economics. A professional couple or pre-wedding photoshoot in India can cost around ₹1.25-1.5 lakh, once photographer, travel and stay are factored in. Meanwhile, Thailand Pose-cation packages start at around ₹50,000-55,000 per person, or roughly ₹1-1.1 lakh per couple, with a professional photoshoot included.

So couples are essentially asking — if the spend is similar, why not turn the photoshoot into an international holiday too?

There is also the Instagram factor. Travel and social media have become increasingly intertwined, and couples are looking for experiences that are not just memorable but also, well, post-worthy. A destination photoshoot gives them multiple looks and settings in one trip, rather than a few hours at a single location back home.

Thailand Is Emerging As The Pose-Cation Favourite

Thailand seems almost tailor-made for this trend. It is relatively easy to reach from major Indian cities and offers everything from bustling cityscapes and beaches to cliffs and islands.

A couple can get their chic city shots in Bangkok, switch to beachside frames in Phuket and even explore another aesthetic in Krabi — all within the same holiday.

Interestingly, Bengaluru is emerging as the biggest market for Pose-cations, accounting for nearly one in four bookings on Pickyourtrail. Delhi and Chennai follow closely.

The trend also says something interesting about how couples are looking at travel today. A holiday is no longer just about ticking places off a list. Increasingly, people want to come back with an experience, a story and, of course, a camera roll to prove it.
