Char Dham Yatra Green Card

To enhance safety and convenience during the Char Dham Yatra 2026, the Uttarakhand government has introduced a ‘Green Card’ system for commercial passenger vehicles. This new system will streamline travel and ensure a smooth yatra for pilgrims. Here is everything you need to know about this new system.

What Is The Green Card System?

According to India Today, Transport Minister Pradeep Batra recently inaugurated the Green Card system at Roshanabad in Haridwar. This launch marks a significant step towards improving transport regulation during the upcoming Char Dham Yatra 2026, which is considered one of India’s largest religious pilgrimages.

The Green Card system is a mandatory certification process for commercial passenger vehicles that will be part of the Char Dham Yatra. The card is designed to verify vehicle fitness and ensure compliance with safety standards before they are allowed to operate on the yatra routes. This system will also help to enhance passenger safety during the yatra and provide instant access to vehicle-related information in case of emergencies.

Applying for this card is super easy! Visitors can apply for the Green Card online through the transport department’s official website. Applicants are required to submit the necessary vehicle details and pay the card fees to complete the process.

According to India Today, Lakhs of devotees travel to Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri every year as part of the yatra. This new system will help manage crowds better, improve monitoring and reduce risks. It will also ensure that only fit vehicles operate on the route. The Char Dham Yatra 2026 is all set to begin on April 19, 2026, with the opening of the Yamunotri and Gangotri temples. Kedarnath and Badrinath temples will open shortly after.
