Travelling in Kolkata is set to get a lot simpler. West Bengal is planning to launch a special ‘Kolkata Key’ mobile app that will serve as a digital guide for tourists and visitors. It will help them discover popular tourist spots, heritage sites and more. Here’s everything you need to know about the application and the services it will offer.
Kolkata Key App To Help Tourists Explore Heritage Sites
West Bengal‘s tourism department will soon launch the ‘Kolkata Key’ mobile app for tourists. According to The Times of India, the app will help users learn more about heritage tourist attractions, sightseeing spots, history and transport facilities quite easily with just a few taps on the screen. In addition to that, the app will also have information about the history of Bengal’s kings and emperors so that people can learn about them.
Reportedly, the Kolkata Key app would have detailed statewide data on verified tour operators, hoteliers, transport providers and homestays, too. Plus, tourists can also use it as a digital guide to explore the various heritage sites in the region. This is an amazing initiative by West Bengal. The app basically acts as a travel helper for people visiting the state.

QR Code To Help Visitors Access All Details
According to The Times of India, a QR code will be uploaded on the state’s official tourism website. Tourists can simply scan the code with their phone to instantly get travel details and digital maps. Authorities are also working to set up a digital map for all districts. There is one more thing a visitor needs to know. The tourism department is also planning to roll out a “Palace of Wheels”. It will cover the heritage tourism circuit.
An MoU was recently signed with the Archaeological Survey of India to restore and renovate 135 heritage monuments and sites across the state. The work will include landscaping, installing drinking water facilities, CCTV surveillance, public washrooms, audio guides and souvenir shops at selected spots.
