In India, another global meeting we were all looking forward to was between PM Narendra Modi and Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever. Because why not? The gifts exchanged during these meetings are always a highlight, and this one was no different. The Belgian PM planned to gift PM Modi a replica of India Gate with a twist, it was made entirely of chocolate! But unfortunately, it didn’t survive the journey. Read on to know what happened!

Belgian PM To Gift PM Modi A Chocolate India Gate

During his visit to India, Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever had planned to gift PM Narendra Modi a chocolate replica of India Gate. What made this gift extra special was that it was entirely made of fine Belgian chocolate. This replace is developed by Neuhaus. However, during a joint press conference with PM Modi after their meeting at Hyderabad House in New Delhi on Thursday, De Wever revealed that the gift did not survive the journey.

The beautiful chocolate sculpture broke while being transported to India. As per Mint, De Wever joked that while the real India Gate has stood for almost a century, its chocolate replica could not even survive a trip to India. He also added that chocolate may be excellent for diplomacy, but it is clearly not the best choice for diplomatic travel.

Backup Already Ready To Reach India

Though one chocolate India Gate broke during the journey, another one is still ready to make its way to India. The Belgian Prime Minister said there is a backup version of the sculpture in Belgium, and he is determined to get it to PM Modi in one piece.

The Belgian PM chose India Gate as a gift because of the shared history between the two nations. It also honours the Indian soldiers who fought and died in Flanders Fields during the First World War. In the photo of the chocolate replica, you can see the words honouring the Indian soldiers carved at the bottom.
