251 Kg Modak-Shaped Cake For Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Temple

Modaks are Lord Ganesha’s favourite, but imagine if devotees offer him a modak weighing 251 kg and that too in rasmalai flavour! Sounds amazing, right? A local bakery in Pune, WS Bakers, made history by offering this giant modak-shaped cake to Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Temple in Pune during Ganeshotsav. The yellow-coloured cake turned heads in the public and even surprised everyone on social media.

According to The Times of India, the bakers did not make this cake using the usual ingredients and gave it a rasmalai twist. The cake was brought to the Prem Mandir-themed pandal, where it was placed before Lord Ganesha’s idol during the rituals. The official page of WS Bakers India uploaded a video showing the giant modak on Instagram and wrote, “251 KG Modak Cake. Made with devotion. Celebrated with Pune. And blessed by Ganpati Bappa Morya!”

Modak Cake Was Distributed As Prasad After The Rituals

After the rituals, the giant modak-shaped cake was taken out and distributed as prasad among devotees. According to The Times of India, around 40 to 50 people worked to make this 251 kg cake. Moreover, this is also WS Bakers’ second consecutive year of making something special for Dagdusheth Ganpati.

But why a cake? Apparently, the bakery wanted to bring two things together that are associated with celebrations, which were a modak and a cake. Reportedly, this year, the Dagdusheth Ganpati temple’s pandal is going viral online. It has been designed around Vrindavan’s Prem Mandir, with temple-inspired detailing and scenes depicting Lord Krishna’s life.
