A Reddit post listing a Bengaluru apartment at a monthly rent of ₹70,000 with a ₹5 lakh deposit is going viral. Netizens have bashed the landlord, calling the price absurd for a 2BHK flat. Many even compared it to Europe, saying flats there are cheaper than in Bengaluru. But at the same time, some users came out in support, calling this the new normal for the city. Here’s more about it.
Landlord Asks ₹70K Monthly For A Bengaluru 2BHK Flat
Absurdity at peak….

A Reddit user, @u/GhostingIsWhatIDo, on the Indian Real Estate community recently posted a listing for a 2BHK flat in Panathur, East Bengaluru. The post, which has now gone viral, drew outrage from many who criticised the landlord for demanding such high rent. The landlord described the flat as a “premium fully furnished space”. The user also wrote that instead of paying ₹70,000 as rent, one could take a loan and pay off something of their own. He captioned the post, “Absurdity at peak. Like, seriously 70k asking price, it’s more than many European apartments…Who are these people who will pay these rents??”
The user further pointed out that the rent felt even more shocking as the area in question is Panathur, a locality known for severe traffic congestion. However, it is also a developing district with good connectivity to major IT hubs in the city. The post highlighted the growing concern that rental prices in urban cities are skyrocketing, making them unaffordable for many. While Delhi and Mumbai have long been known for expensive rentals, Bengaluru has now joined the list.
Mixed Reactions From Redditors
The rent and the ₹5 lakh deposit naturally outraged Reddit users. One commented, “How can someone pay 70k for 2bhk, especially for that flood-prone area?” while another wrote, “Look at that idiot asking for 5 lakh deposit, what sort of nonsense is going on there?” Some complained about the high prices, while others noted that since no one might rent it, the landlord might eventually lower the rate.
A few pointed out that 4-5 freshers with big pay cheques could pool in money and still take it, which they believe is one of the reasons rents are skyrocketing in the tech capital.
However, not all were against the landlord. One user said, “Ongoing rent here is 45+ maintenance.. for that area it’s still too much. But once you are in the society, it’s maintained. Lots of Open spaces and beautiful landscapes.” Another added, “They pay a huge premium for a matchbox-sized house because of proximity to the workplace, but they will get stuck in the traffic near the railway underpass. In any case, this is better than buying that for 1cr+.” A Redditor remarked that no matter how absurd the rent seems, the landlord only needs one person willing to pay.
Skyrocketing rents in Bengaluru are not new. Being the tech capital of India, the city has seen an influx of IT professionals, which in turn has pushed landlords to hike their rates. While many see these prices as unaffordable, some argue that it is normal for a city like Bengaluru.
