In a truly historic and emotional moment, the Banke Bihari Temple in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, opened its treasury after 54 long years on the auspicious day of Dhanteras. The event, filled with devotion, tradition, and excitement, drew attention from across the country as this sacred space, locked away since 1971, was finally opened once again.
Banke Bihari Temple In Mathura Reopened Its Treasury After Over Five Decades
The reopening took place on Saturday under the supervision of a High-Powered Committee, following a Supreme Court order. To ensure complete safety and transparency, the entire process was videographed and carried out under tight security.
According to the Economic Times, Sandeep Singh, a Mathura Circle Officer, clarified that the temple’s treasury is being cautiously reopened in accordance with court orders. In addition to teams from the fire and forest departments, a number of security measures have been put in place. Nobody is certain of the treasury’s precise state because it has been closed for more than 50 years, so every precaution is being taken.
Because the treasury had been sealed for such a long time, officials wanted to be prepared for every situation. Fire safety was a key focus, with special backpack-style fire extinguishers brought in, according to The Economic Times. These extinguishers work by cutting off the oxygen supply to stop fires quickly. The presence of forest department personnel ensured that the old structure and surroundings remained protected.
Opening It On Dhanteras Makes It Even More Significant
The last time this treasury was opened was in 1971, under the supervision of the temple’s then committee president, as per The Economic Times report. Since then, the doors had remained shut, becoming almost a legend among devotees. The day chosen for this reopening, Dhanteras, marks the beginning of Diwali, one of India’s most celebrated festivals.
The day is dedicated to Lord Dhanvantari, the Goddess of Wealth Lakshmi, Lord Kuber, and Lord Ganesha, deities associated with prosperity, good health, and abundance. People across the country buy gold, silver, and other precious items on Dhanteras, believing it brings good fortune and wealth into their homes.
For the people of Mathura and devotees of Lord Banke Bihari, this Dhanteras was even more special. The reopening of the temple treasury after five decades felt like a blessing directly from the deity himself.
