Ahead Of Diwali, Delhi Air Quality Drops To ‘Poor’ Category; AQI Expected To Breach 300 By Oct 16

Here’s some bad news for Delhiites! The air quality in the city dipped to the ‘poor category’ for the first time since June 11 this year. The AQI in Delhi was recorded at 201 in the early hours of the day and is likely to remain poor for the coming days. This update comes barely a week before Diwali. 

Delhi’s AQI Turns Poor Ahead Of Diwali

Delhi’s air quality took a sudden turn for the worse starting June 11, when the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) dropped to 245, placing it in the ‘poor’ category. As per a report by Hindustan Times, Delhi’s air quality is likely to remain in the ‘poor’ category from October 14 to October 16. Reportedly, in Delhi, the air quality showed signs of deterioration, reaching 167 (moderate level) at 4 pm on Monday. 

According to News24, the Early Warning System (EWS) has indicated that air quality could worsen by October 16 and might breach the 300 mark. Moreover, Delhi will see clear weather with no rain forecast for the next 4-5 days. Reportedly, there has been a significant rise in air pollution in Delhi over the past few days. The post-monsoon and pre-winter phase often brings dense fog and poor air conditions.

AQI Breaches 200 Mark Across Several Areas

As per News24, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), many areas in Delhi breached the 200 AQI mark. Anand Vihar in East Delhi recorded an alarming 374 AQI under the ‘very poor’ category.

  • Mathura Road: 248
  • Dwarka: 248
  • Jahangirpuri: 248
  • Shadipur: 245
  • Siri Fort: 238
  • Mundka: 222

  • Rohini: 212
  • Alipur: 212
  • Punjabi Bagh: 207
  • Vivek Vihar: 207
  • Nehru Nagar: 203
  • RK Puram: 201

Air pollution is once again a concern in Delhi. People are urged to limit outdoor activities, wear masks when stepping outside, stay hydrated, and eat antioxidant-rich food. You can also invest in air-purifying indoor plants to reduce the impact. Stay safe and take all precautions.
