Air Taxis May Soon Connect Gurugram, CP & Noida; Aims To Reduce Road Congestion

Air Taxis

India might soon have air taxis flying in Indian airspace. Authorities are planning a corridor connecting Gurugram, Connaught Place and the Jewar International Airport in Noida. Here’s everything you need to know about this exciting update, which could soon become a reality.

Air Taxis Could Soon Come To Delhi-NCR

According to a report by NDTV, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is planning air taxis in India. A pilot corridor is in the works that will connect Gurugram, Connaught Place and the Jewar International Airport in Noida. This air taxi system is expected to help cut infrastructural bottlenecks and reduce travel time from hours to mere minutes.

But where would these air taxis actually operate from? Reportedly, these air taxis could take off and land from the rooftops of hospitals and commercial buildings. Authorities are planning strategic co-locations with hospitals, metro stations and business districts. This would help integrate air taxis into the city’s existing transport network.

Might Reduce Congestion On Roads

Initially, these air taxis might be used for organ transportation, air ambulance services, drone delivery and other emergency missions. Honestly, planning air taxis for organ transport is a great idea. It could make it much faster to move organs from one place to another in critical time windows. But the main goal behind flying taxis is to reduce road congestion in major cities.

According to NDTV, these taxis will work under the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). A report on Advanced Air Mobility released by Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu also revealed that these taxis will operate in Indian airspace and could be a strong solution to urban congestion. The report also outlines a phased plan for safely integrating air taxis into the aviation system.

However, the plan is still in very early stages. Acquiring land for ground-based vertiports is expensive and requires multiple clearances. That is why rooftops of commercial hubs, hospitals and tech parks are being proposed as a solution. But if everything goes as planned, flying taxis could soon become a reality in many major Indian cities!
