Amid the LPG shortage across India, it’s a relief for Gurgaon residents as the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) recently launched an LPG vending machine, also known as a ‘Gas ATM’, at Central Park Flower Valley in Sohna Sector 33. Read on to know more about the launch.
Gurgaon Gets Its First LPG Vending Machine
As per a report by Firstpost, the initiative is led by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPSCL), which serves as an important project for the Delhi NCR region. This initiative is a step towards relief for the residents during the current supply shortage.
This automated facility operates on a simple swap principle where consumers can trade an empty cylinder for a filled one. The machine allows contactless exchange and is designed for speed and efficient use while ensuring that the new unit is dispensed within minutes.

To use the service, a customer has to simply enter their registered mobile number and verify it through an OTP (one-time password). After the verification, they need to scan a required QR code and complete the digital transaction via UPI or card. After the payment, the machine dispenses the filled cylinder. One of the best features of the gas ATM is that it consists of modern composite cylinders instead of the heavy steel ones. These modern containers are fiber-based and said to be more user-friendly. They weigh approximately 15 kg, which is half the weight of the traditional iron cylinders. Not only this, but these modern cylinders also possess a translucent body that allows households to monitor their gas levels.
Operations & Motive Behind The Gas ATM
To ensure feasible convenience for the consumers, the vending machine in Gurgaon is operational 24 hours a day. It is also equipped with an intelligent inventory management system that can store up to ten cylinders at a time. The best part of the vending machine is when the available stock reduces to just two units, the machine automatically alerts the local agency to restock it. As per the news portal, as the facility is still in its early stages and there is very limited public awareness, this machine represents an important shift towards a self-service model in energy distribution.
