IndiGo is going through a major operational crisis and has now entered its fourth day. With mass cancellations, passengers are left stranded at airports, frustrated and angry. The cancellations triggered long queues at terminals, with authorities trying to manage the issue. Amid all this, IndiGo passengers are curious about whether they are eligible for full refunds or not. Here is everything you need to know.
IndiGo Is Facing A Major Operational Crisis
IndiGo passengers are definitely going through a tough time as hundreds of its flights face delays and cancellations. According to a report by Hindustan Times, the ongoing operational crisis has led to nearly 1,000 flight cancellations in the last few days. Reportedly, the trouble began earlier this week after an Airbus A320 software advisory. It caused delays and pushed several flights into late-night operations. The problem escalated further when the Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) new rules kicked in, restricting crew hours. Normal operations may only resume by February 10 next year.
But what about passengers who have already invested money in their tickets? IndiGo has now announced full refunds on all cancellations from December 5 to December 15, along with offering alternative travel arrangements. According to IndiGo’s refund policy, passengers are eligible for a free date or time change and a full refund under these three conditions:
- If their flight is cancelled.
- If the departure time is moved forward by an hour or more.
- If the flight is delayed by at least two hours.

How Can Passengers Claim Refunds For Their Cancelled Flights?
Passengers can also opt for the airline’s ‘Plan B’ option on IndiGo’s website. It allows them to choose another flight or initiate a refund. Once processed, a full refund will reflect in their account within seven business days. But rules differ for tickets booked through travel agents. In that case, customers must reach out to their respective agencies to complete the refund process.
According to Hindustan Times, passengers also have the option to skip the alternate flight offered by IndiGo. They can claim a full refund if their flight is cancelled or delayed by more than six hours. As per DGCA rules, refunds should be processed immediately for cash or bank transfers, while credit card refunds must be completed within seven days.
