Why Is Manas National Park A Must-Visit?
Manas National Park, located in western Assam along the Bhutan border, is one of the state’s major wildlife destinations. Set in the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas, the park is known for its forests, grasslands and the Manas River. It is also part of the larger Manas Tiger Reserve.
The park is home to several species of wildlife, including tigers, elephants and the greater one-horned rhinoceros. It is particularly significant for rare and endangered species such as the pygmy hog and Bengal florican. Manas is also recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its rich biodiversity and varied landscape. The park’s location along the India-Bhutan border adds another dimension to its conservation landscape, with the protected area connected to Bhutan’s Royal Manas National Park. Kaziranga, meanwhile, remains one of Assam’s best-known wildlife destinations and is famous for its population of greater one-horned rhinoceroses. Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, located near Guwahati, is also known for its rhino population and offers visitors another option for wildlife experiences.
