It’s a historical moment because for the first time, Mizoram has marked its place on India’s railway map, thanks to the Bairabi–Sairang railway line. Initially, this project faced many problems, including the collapse of a bridge that caused 26 deaths. But now it’s finally completed.  With the project, new stations are introduced. These stations are Hortoki, Kawnpui, Mualkhang, and Sairang, reported Pune Pulse. People travelling from Aizawl to Silchar by road used to take over seven hours for the journey. Thanks to the new railway line, the journey will now take only three hours by train.

The train on this route is expected to run at over 100 kmph. It aims to enhance faster and smoother access to healthcare, education, and business opportunities. Moreover, it will also boost Mizoram’s economy. As per the experts’ estimate, the state economy will surge by 2 to 3% annually by adding ₹500-700 crore to GDP. The new railway line will benefit the farmers the most as their crops like bamboo, oranges, ginger, pineapples, and chillies will reach the market quickly. On the other hand, the transport costs will also be reduced by 40%.

Tourism In Mizoram

The improved connectivity is expected to bring more tourists to the state and increase the number by 40-50% over the next five years. Apart from this, Mizoram is prone to natural disasters like floods and landslides. The Bairabi–Sairang railway line will make it easier for the government to reach for rescue quickly.

For Mizoram, the launch of the Bairabi–Sairang railway line is way beyond just infrastructure. It’s a symbol and hope that the state will witness more growth and development in the future.
