Winter fog may look beautiful, but it can easily disrupt travel. That’s exactly what happened in Bengaluru this week. On Thursday, dense fog at Kempegowda International Airport reduced visibility and caused significant flight delays in the early hours of the morning. Scroll down for more details.
Flights Delayed At Bengaluru Airport
On Thursday, November 27, many flights flying from Bengaluru airport were delayed. The reason? Visibility remained poor around the airport area. As per Hindustan Times, an airport spokesperson said that around 41 flights were affected from as early as 5:30 AM. The dense fog in the area made it difficult for flights to take off and land safely, leading to repeated delays throughout the morning.
Officials did not immediately share details of the affected flights, but they confirmed that fog was the main reason for the disruption. Light rainfall in parts of the city also added to the slow movement of aircraft. Fog-related flight delays are common during winter in Bengaluru. The city often experiences thick fog between 3 AM and 8:30 AM, which makes take-offs and landings difficult. As a result, passengers travelling during these hours usually face longer waiting times.

Travel Advisory By SpiceJet
SpiceJet issued a travel advisory for passengers flying in and out of Bengaluru. The airline warned that due to poor visibility caused by dense fog at Kempegowda International Airport, all departures, arrivals, and their connecting flights could be affected.
According to NewsX, overnight, Bengaluru experienced heavy fog, which made it hard to see clearly—visibility dropped to about 1,500 meters near Kempegowda Airport. Even into the morning, patches of mist remained, although the sky was partly cloudy. The weather department (IMD) reported normal atmospheric pressure and predicted similar partly cloudy conditions throughout the day, with temperatures between 18°C and 28°C.

Travellers were advised to check their flights before leaving for the airport. These 41 flight delays are followed by earlier interruptions caused by volcanic ash from Ethiopia, resulting in the cancellation of seven international flights and delaying 12 others.
