Under the Bengaluru double-decker viaduct project, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) will construct elevated metro lines stacked above flyovers on two important corridors. It is a metro plus road project and will improve the connectivity across the city, along with easing traffic. This is the first time in Bengaluru that a project will combine metro lines and roads on the same structure, Hindustan Times reported.

Gaining approval from the cabinet was the final phase to kick off the project. The government will invite tenders in late September for the first four packages of the project. These packages will include the work of building both stations and viaducts. Contractors will have 45–60 days to submit their bids, and the process will begin in mid-November.

More About This Project

For this upcoming metro and flyover project, the Karnataka cabinet has given a budget approval of ₹9,700 crore. The total budget includes civil works, land acquisition, design, and other expenses. The state government will cover 50% of the flyover costs, 10% will be provided by urban local bodies, and the remaining 40% will be borrowed from banks by BMRCL. Whereas the Union government will only look after the funds of the metro lines. Some part of the ₹4,000 crore Namma Metro 2025-2026 project will be used in this metro line and flyover project.

According to Hindustan Times, the first corridor will start from JP Nagar 4th Phase to Kempapura to cover the western side of the Outer Ring Road (ORR). On this corridor, authorities are planning to construct a 28.486-km flyover. As per Deccan Herald, once complete, it will be the longest flyover in the city. The second corridor is from Hosahalli to Kadabagere on Magadi Road, with an 8.635 km-long flyover.

Initially, the flyover was supposed to be 44.65 km long, which has now been reduced. The project is expected to be completed by May 2031.

We are excited to see the outcome of the new development project in Bengaluru.
