How safe is public transport, really? A majority of the Indian population in metro cities relies on cabs, autos, and ride-hailing apps like Uber to get around. Our top priorities are safety, comfort, and convenience. But every now and then, an incident reminds us that much more needs to change. Recently, a Bengaluru-based social media influencer shared a terrifying experience on Instagram, raising serious questions regarding passenger safety.
Bengaluru Woman Says Uber Auto Driver Threatened Her During Ride

According to her post, she booked an Uber auto to head home, but what happened during that ride left her shaken. She alleged that the driver not only refused to drop her at her destination but even tried to hit her when she confronted him.
Aimee decided to speak out. On her Instagram page, she described the incident, tagging Uber India and denouncing the company for what she called “poor driver behaviour” and “lax background checks.” The post quickly went viral, as many people related to the incident; they even reacted, shared, and commented to share their experiences.
Uber India quickly responded to her post, stating that they wanted to look into the issue and were “concerned to see this.” In fact, Bengaluru City Police also commented to ask for her contact details and the exact location of the incident.
Netizens Demand Stricter Safety Measures
Surely, many users praised their prompt action; however, others noted that these actions were merely band-aid solutions. Stronger background checks, harsher sanctions for drivers who violate the law, and quicker complaint resolutions are what passengers truly want to ensure that similar incidents don’t occur again.
Her post quickly gained popularity, and the comments section was overflowing with responses. People were shocked, angry, and deeply concerned about how unsafe public transport has started to feel.
One user wrote, “It was so dark… he could have dropped her to the point. Don’t make this about Kannada, Malayalam, or any language issue. Please stand for what’s right. I’ve traveled many times in autos, and most drivers are understanding — but some really cross the line.”
Several others supported Aimee for staying calm and speaking out: “You spoke to him politely only. These drivers sometimes behave weirdly,” one user commented, while others urged Uber to permanently suspend the driver and introduce better safety measures.
When passengers book a cab or auto through an app, they trust the company to make sure the person driving them is safe, verified, and responsible. While Uber and the Bengaluru Police have responded quickly, netizens are demanding more than just apologies.
At the end of the day, everyone just wants the same thing: to get home safely.
