Odisha’s Bhubaneswar Railway Station is undergoing a major transformation, with construction work progressing at a war footing. On Sunday, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw visited the station to review the ongoing development projects. Read on to know more about the development.
Bhubaneswar Railway Station Gets Makeover
As per a report by Odisha TV, during the visit, the Minister inspected multiple construction works and assessed the progress by interacting with the passengers and officials. He also gathered feedback on the work, facilities and services.

The station is being transformed into a modern airport-like transit hub with many important infrastructure improvements underway. These include the construction of driveways on both sides of the platform, expansion of foot overbridges, enhancement of platform shelters and more.
As per the news portal, the minister also stated that more than 1,300 railway stations across the state are going through reconstructions. Bhubaneswar railway station is transforming part of that series. Elevated waiting areas are being constructed for the passengers, just like the ones in airports. Entries have been facilitated from both sides. Good facilities are being provided for the passengers for the next 50 years.
Key Features Of The Modern Upgradation
The station is being developed into a modern transit hub, with major improvements like the following:
- Air concourse connecting all six platforms for easy passenger travel.
- Elevated driveways on both sides of the station.
- Expansion of foot overbridges for better access.
- Better platform shelters for passenger comfort.
- Advanced waiting areas to accommodate large crowds.
The new air concourse, which will be very much similar to airport-style infrastructure, is expected to rapidly improve connectivity and reduce large crowds within the station. Additionally, the redevelopment aims to provide world-class amenities that will serve to meet passenger needs for the next several decades. He also stated that the station is part of a broader initiative to upgrade railway infrastructure across the area, ensuring improved efficiency, comfort and accessibility for passengers. As per the news portal, the Railway Station upgrade is designed to accommodate over 1,500 passengers.
