Bihar Train Services Disrupted Due To Rajendra Pul Work; 35 Cancelled, 33 Diverted

Indian Railways has cancelled 35 trains, diverted 33 others, and short-terminated or short-originated nine trains today due to non-interlocking (NI) work at Rajendra Pul in Bihar. Want to know more about it? Read on.

Bihar Train Cancelled & Diverted Due To Work At Rajendra Pul

According to reports by The Indian Express, the work is being carried out to commission a new rail bridge parallel to the existing Rajendra Bridge over the Ganga near Mokama. The new bridge will connect the existing railway network at Upper Hathidah Junction, Tal Junction, Rampur Dumra, Dinkar Gram Simaria and Barauni Junction.

The 1.9-km rail-cum-road Rajendra Bridge connects Mokama and Barauni across the Ganga and has been operational since 1959. According to Saraswati Chandra, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of East Central Railway (ECR), the existing bridge carries a single railway line and could not be doubled due to technical limitations. A parallel double-line bridge was subsequently approved in the 2015-16 Rail Budget at an estimated cost of ₹1,491.47 crore.

Several trains have been cancelled due to the ongoing NI work at Rajendra Pul. These include Howrah-Mokama Express, Howrah-Jaynagar Express, Jaynagar-Howrah Express, Jaynagar-Sealdah Express, Malda Town-Patna Express, Banaras-Ara Express, Patliputra-Gorakhpur Express, Sitamarhi-Kolkata Terminal Express, Patna-Kiul MEMU Fast Passenger and Bhagalpur-Muzaffarpur Jansewa Express, among others.

Several trains have also been diverted due to the NI work. The affected services include Howrah-New Delhi Poorva Express, Amritsar-Howrah Mail, Howrah-Kathgodam Bagh Express, Howrah-Dehradun Kumbha Express, Patna-Jasidih Express, New Jalpaiguri-Ara Capital Express, Sambalpur-Gorakhpur Maurya Express, Hatia-Patna Patliputra Express, New Jalpaiguri-Patna Vande Bharat Express and Patna-New Jalpaiguri Vande Bharat Express, among others.
