The Madhya Pradesh government has approved ₹390 crore for development works in the buffer zones of its nine tiger reserves. This decision aims to reduce human-wildlife conflict in the region. Here’s what will be included in these development works, and all other details you should know.
Development In Madhya Pradesh’s Tiger Reserves To Start Soon
Madhya Pradesh is known as the ‘Tiger State of India’, as it is home to a large population of tigers. This move by the government will also help reaffirm that status. According to a report by The New Indian Express, the state cabinet has approved ₹390 crore for development in the buffer zones of nine tiger reserves. This five-year plan will be implemented from 2026-27 to 2030-31.
Under this dedicated project, development work will include chain-link fencing in sensitive areas and wildlife protection measures. Other works include pasture development and the creation of water sources. Authorities also plan to improve fire safety arrangements, wildlife treatment and health check-ups, along with skill upgradation initiatives for local communities.

Aim Is To Reduce Human-Wildlife Conflict
According to The New Indian Express, the main objective of this project is to prevent human-wildlife conflict, especially in densely populated areas near the buffer zones of tiger reserves. Reducing conflict not only protects wildlife but also safeguards human lives and livelihoods. In addition to this, wildlife conflicts can also damage crops, livestock and infrastructure, directly impacting the lives of many farmers.
Authorities continue to implement different ways to prevent such conflicts. This includes using AI-based monitoring systems, improving infrastructure, and introducing development measures like those in Madhya Pradesh. Around 500 km of buffer zones across the nine tiger reserves will be covered with chain-link fencing. The work will begin with 52 km on priority in the five tiger reserves. These include Kanha, Ratapani, Pench, Sanjay-Dubri, and Bandhavgarh.
