We’ve seen many creative café concepts, some set up in the most unexpected places. But one such idea has now sparked major controversy over hygiene concerns. A pink toilet facility in Mumbai was reportedly running a café from its rear side. The unusual setup has raised questions about safety, and cleanliness. Read on to know what exactly happened.
BMC Pink Toilet Converted Into Café In Mumbai
In Mumbai, pink toilet buses were introduced to improve sanitation for women. They are placed in crowded areas to offer safe and clean facilities. Each bus usually includes toilets, changing rooms, and other basic amenities designed especially for women. However, the situation took a controversial turn when people noticed a café-like setup running from the rear side.
The issue comes from the Fort area near Fashion Street. According to Mid Day, a pink toilet bus set up by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) was found to have a food stall operating from its rear side. Many locals, shoppers, and visitors raised concerns about hygiene.
BMC Shut Down The Pink Cafe
A bizarre misuse of public infrastructure in Mumbai has finally been stopped. Authorities stepped in after a mobile women’s toilet unit was being used to run an unauthorised café from its rear.
Officials from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) shut the café on Thursday night, April 2, in Fort, near Cross Maidan. The action came within hours of questions being raised about how it was running without licences or permissions.
The controversy picked up when the café manager, Geeta Mehar, openly admitted she didn’t have the required documents. She claimed she had a reference letter from MLA Rahul Narwekar and said the necessary papers were with the corporator Makarand Narwekar’s office.
Mid Day reported that soon after, Rahul Narwekar addressed the situation. He clarified that he had only recommended her as an applicant, not given approval to run the café. He also made it clear that no one should use his name to carry out any activity without proper permissions.
