Early on Tuesday morning, the Chengalpattu district administration carried out a major eviction and demolition near Chennai airport. The New Indian Express reported that this happened just a day after the Alandur Civil Court gave its verdict in favour of the Tamil Nadu government over a long-disputed piece of land. The officials reached the spot around 4 am, sealed the building occupied by the famous hotel chain Saravana Bhavan, evicted the staff, and demolished the structure located along GST Road in Alandur.

The property in question covered about 40,000 square feet and was estimated to be worth nearly ₹300 crore. Officials said that the land, listed under Survey No. 1467/2, was classified as poramboke (government) land. According to the district administration, the hotel’s lease on the property had ended a few years ago. Notices had been sent to vacate the space. However, the management did not comply and instead approached the Alandur Civil Court to challenge the order.

Hoax Bomb Threat In Chennai

As per The New Indian Express, another incident in Chennai caused tension among officials and locals. Someone sent a hoax bomb threat email to the office of the Tamil Nadu Director General of Police (DGP), claiming bombs were planted at the homes of actor Dhanush, former MP Subramanian Swamy, and Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K Selvaperunthagai.

The city police and Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad quickly rushed to the spots and conducted detailed searches. After thorough checks, the police confirmed that the threats were false alarms and no explosives were found. The cyber crime wing has registered a case and started an investigation to trace the person behind the fake email.
