In a tragic incident on Sunday, one woman died, and six others were injured after a ropeway trolley plunged when its cable snapped near Khallari Mata Temple in Chhattisgarh’s Mahasamund district. The trolley was descending from the hilltop temple when it fell from a height of approximately 200-300 feet.

According to Hindustan Times, the ropeway accident in Chhattisgarh occurred around 10 AM near Khallari in Bhimkhoj village. The incident claimed one life and left six others injured. The deceased was identified as Ayushi Satkar, a 28-year-old from Raipur. Her husband, Rishabh Dhavre, and a minor relative, Chhayansh Dhavre, who were accompanying her, were also injured in the accident.

The other injured have been identified as Govind Swami (47), Namita Swami (48), and minors Kushmita Swami (10) and Manshvi Godaria (12). All the injured were initially rushed to a nearby hospital and later referred to Raipur for further treatment.

The Khallari Mata Temple is situated at an elevation of 1,100 feet. Devotees can either climb nearly 900 steps to reach the shrine or opt for the ropeway service for a more convenient journey. According to reports, the victims had visited the temple during the ongoing Navratri festival and were on their way back when the ropeway cable snapped.

Here’s What We Know So Far

While talking to the media, Bagbahra Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Namita Markole said that the plunged ropeway trolley fell from a height of around 200-300 feet. After the crash, another trolley carrying around 10 passengers was quickly returned to the base soon after it began ascending. Passengers felt a sharp jolt, but no major injuries were reported.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed grief over the incident on X and ordered a detailed probe. Calling the accident “extremely tragic and painful,” he extended condolences to the bereaved family and directed officials to ensure proper treatment for the injured.
