Chinese Food Lovers, Take Note! Maharashtra FDA To Soon Inspect Chinese Street Food Stalls

Maharashtra’s FDA has now levelled up its food inspections. After restaurants and popular eateries, they will soon start checking popular street carts selling Chinese food across cities and towns in Maharashtra. To protect people’s health, the officials are leaving no stone unturned.

Maharashtra FDA To Inspect Chinese Food Stalls

The Chinese food stalls in Maharashtra selling those crispy plates of chow mein, Manchurian, chilli chicken and more will now come under the scrutiny of FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe. According to Moneycontrol, the FDA has received several complaints about the Chinese food vendors operating across cities and towns, which is why they will soon begin inspections.

Reportedly, the proposed inspections will cover roadside food stalls to check food quality, hygiene, storage practices and the type of ingredients used in the preparation. However, the FDA has not yet announced a blanket ban on red food colouring in Chinese food. The focus will be more on whether the ingredients used by vendors meet applicable food safety requirements or not.

Chinese street food stalls, commonly called “Desi Chinese”, are quite popular among foodies. From noodles and fried rice to fried eggs and more, these dishes are served with a desi twist using spices, ginger, green chillies, and more, which is loved by many.

FDA Targets Food Adulteration, Substandard Products & More

According to Moneycontrol, the inspection will also focus on the required licences and registrations of the food vendors. Over the past two months, Maharashtra’s FDA has carried out enforcement action targeting food adulteration, substandard products, counterfeit goods and illegal gutkha.

Their strict action against violators shows that the department would not tolerate any kind of compromise on issues involving people’s health. The FDA has also started a toll-free number for complaints and is already receiving a great response from the public. Every complaint on the portal is being examined, and the department is taking action accordingly.
