“Cosmological Misunderstanding,” Shashi Tharoor On X User Calling Rasgulla, Idli In Syrup

Shashi Tharoor,  Member of the Lok Sabha, has come up with a very humorous remark after a woman stated that idlis are just rasgullas dipped in sugar syrup. The comparison angered many netizens online, while Shashi Tharoor called it a ‘culinary error’. Here’s what happened.

Shashi Tharoor Calls Rasgulla-Idli Comparison A “Culinary Error”

A woman on X recently uploaded photos of mishti doi and rasgulla and asked the internet how someone should explain these desserts to a non-Bengali person. An X user sparked a debate by writing, “Rasgulla is nothing but an idli dipped in sugar syrup.” Plus, the user also called it the “most overrated dessert”.  Shashi Tharoor, Member of the Lok Sabha, came across this comparison and could not stop himself from making a humorous remark.

He first mentioned that comparing a rasgulla with an idli is not just a “culinary error” but a “profound cosmological misunderstanding.” After that, he explained that the comparison is a biological impossibility as the woman was comparing chhena to the fermented batter of parboiled rice and urad dal.

Netizens Agree With Shashi Tharoor’s Humorous Take

Not just that, but Shashi Tharoor also wrote that their “compositions are from entirely different kingdoms. One is an airy, spongy lattice designed to trap light sugar syrup. While the other is a dense, wholesome, steamed matrix of complex carbohydrates and proteins.”   He further highlighted that the “taste, consistency, structural integrity and existential purpose” of idli and rasgulla share absolutely nothing in common.

Shashi Tharoor did not stop there. He also mentioned that idlis are a monolith of South Indian culinary genius that are perfectly engineered to absorb the “sharp tang of well-spiced sambar”. He ended the post by writing, “Please, leave the noble, perfectly fermented, steamed majesty of the Idli out of your dessert-table polemics, ma’am!”

Many netizens, especially those who love idlis and rasgullas, totally agreed with Shashi Tharoor. They also appreciated how he explained the difference in his classic style.
