No matter the mode of transport, accidents can happen anytime. Recently, a boat carrying pilgrims on the Mathura’s Yamuna river met with a tragic accident. Sadly, many people died, and several are still missing. Here’s what happened.
Tragic Boat Accident In Mathura’s Yamuna River
A boat carrying devotees capsized in the Yamuna River on Friday afternoon. The incident happened around 3:15 PM near Kesi Ghat, where a pontoon bridge is located. Around 25 to 27 people were on board when the accident took place. According to The Times of India, the boat suddenly collided with the pontoon bridge and then lost its balance. After the impact, it overturned and sank in the river.
In this tragic accident, at least 10 people lost their lives. Several others are still missing, and search efforts continue in the river. Rescue teams quickly reached the spot after the incident. Fire services, local police, trained divers, and boatmen joined hands to carry out search and relief work. They pulled out survivors and also recovered bodies from the water. Authorities also shifted the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment. Teams are still scanning the river to find missing people.

Deep Condolences For Victims’ Families
On this tragic incident, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, deeply pained by the mishap due to the capsizing of a boat in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh.” Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also reacted to the accident. He described the incident as deeply distressing. He directed officials to immediately reach the site, speed up rescue operations, and ensure proper medical care for the injured. He also expressed sympathy for the families who lost their loved ones.
The Times of India reported that on the other side, a boat accident took place on the Narmada River during a pilgrimage activity near Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga. A boat carrying pilgrims capsized there as well. Fortunately, all 10 pilgrims on board were rescued safely by the police and rescue teams.
