Delhi commuters, there is an important update for you. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced plans to expand its Golden Line with an elevated extension. This expansion will cater to the growing travel needs of South Delhi and ensure better connectivity along the Yamuna Riverfront. Here is what we know so far.
DMRC Plans Elevated Extension On Golden Line
DMRC recently took to its official X account and announced a 3.9-kilometre corridor as part of the Delhi Metro Golden Line. This stretch will run from Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj. The elevated extension will improve connectivity to areas located along the Yamuna Riverfront. Not just that, this new route is expected to make journeys faster and more convenient. Road traffic is also expected to reduce once this elevated extension becomes operational.
DMRC also mentioned that this line will further “balance the city’s transportation system.” According to a report by News18, this corridor will have only four stations, out of which two are already operational. Authorities are now planning to add two additional stations along the route.

Travel Time To Drop
According to News18, once completed, the elevated stretch is expected to cut travel time between Tughlakabad and Kalindi Kunj to just 10-12 minutes. This is definitely great news for commuters who regularly travel on this route. Their daily journeys are set to become easier and quicker. The project has also been specially planned to meet the growing travel needs of South Delhi.
The upcoming corridor is expected to benefit thousands of daily commuters by offering a faster alternative. Commuters will be able to save significant time by avoiding heavily congested arterial roads, especially along the Yamuna riverfront.
Currently, Delhi and Noida are connected by two metro lines. Journeys from Noida City Centre to areas such as Tughlakabad or the Badarpur border can take between one and one-and-a-half hours. Travel time will reduce significantly once the elevated stretch of the Delhi Metro Golden Line becomes operational.
