Delhi Zoo Plans A Modern Reptile House With Better Facilities

The Delhi Zoo is currently home to six species of snakes, comprising 26 adult snakes and three hatchlings. All of them live in scientifically managed enclosures. According to Mid-Day, the authorities are now planning to upgrade the existing Reptile House into a modern, immersive facility with an advanced temperature regulation system. Plus, the new and upgraded Reptile House will also come with improved environmental controls and enhanced visitor interpretation facilities.

Not just that, but the upgrade also includes introducing more reptile species to the zoo, with a focus on animal welfare, conservation breeding, research and education. Reportedly, over the last year, the Delhi Zoo has introduced several measures to improve snake welfare. These include the installation of UV lighting systems, temperature and humidity monitoring equipment, and even artificial incubation of snake eggs using scientific protocols.

According to Mid-Day, this announcement was made recently on the occasion of World Snake Day celebrations. The Delhi Zoo even organised an expert lecture on snake biology, conservation and safe handling for its permanent staff.
