Kashi is all set to celebrate Dev Deepawali, a grand festival that takes place exactly 15 days after the Diwali festival. Dev Deepawali celebrates the victory of Lord Shiva, who defeated a powerful demon named Tripurasura. Kashi will mark the day by lighting more than 11 lakh diyas and grand celebrations.
Kashi Will Light Over 11 Lakh Diyas For Dev Deepawali
Varanasi, or Kashi in Uttar Pradesh, is once again preparing to celebrate Dev Deepawali on November 24. The city will transform into a sea of lights to mark the festival with more than 11 lakh diyas (earthen pots). According to The Times of India, the state government is planning to mark the “Diwali of the Gods” in a grander way compared to last year.
The tourism department will light the Ganga ghats with diyas. Out of 11 lakh diyas, nearly 1 lakh will be made from cow dung. This initiative aims to combine faith and tradition with environmental protection. Apart from the ghats, the ponds and kunds across the city will also be illuminated by earthen lamps.

City To Glow With Diyas, Laser Shows And More
According to The Times of India, the celebration will be made grander by public participation. On the day of Kartik Purnima, a full moon festival, the crescent-shaped ghats of Kashi will shimmer in the glow of diyas. People won’t be able to stop themselves from clicking pictures on their cameras. The Dev Deepawali celebration in the city highlights the blend of devotion, spirituality and community participation. This year, the scale of celebrations is expected to make headlines.
Reportedly, the ghats along the Ganga River will undergo special cleaning before the festival. They will also be adorned with facade lighting and electric illumination to showcase Kashi’s architectural and cultural heritage. The state government is also planning a laser show and green fireworks.
