“Don’t Play With Your Health”: Viral Video Exposes Frozen Reality Of 10-Min Food Deliveries

Quick deliveries have taken over our lives and patience. What might take a day, we expect in minutes. Food that requires at least 20 minutes of preparation, we expect to be at our doorsteps— cooked, packed, and delivered in less than 15 minutes. Can we expect the food ordered from quick commerce food kitchens to be prepared from scratch? Bursting our bubble is a viral video of a man exposing the workings of such dark kitchens. He claims and shows that food in dark kitchens is far from fresh. In fact, “everything is frozen.”

Reheated Frozen Food Delivered In 10 Minutes

In a video reposted by journalist Aravind Sharma on X, a gig worker is seen giving a tour of the walk-in freezer of a quick commerce food kitchen. As the man takes his viewers across the dark kitchen’s freezer, he shows shelves stacked with large batches of frozen food. There are plastic packets filled with dal, parathas, kadhi, pakoras, samosas, rice and other gravies.

On receiving online orders, he states that packets are cut open, food rapidly reheated, and then packed and sent out for deliveries. Rather than food being cooked fresh to order, frozen dishes simply undergo reheating. Quick commerce platforms rely on pre-made and frozen items stored in mini warehouses or ‘dark stores’ to churn out food deliveries in minutes.

Gig Worker’s Viral Video Starts Internet Debate

The gig worker shows blocks of pre-cooked rice, frozen in plastic packets. He explains that if one expects food in 10 minutes, they can most likely expect to receive reheated frozen food. “You’ll understand the impact of this food on your health later in life,” he says. Despite working in dark stores, the man admits to not consuming such kinds of frozen food. Moreover, he shares that the purpose of his video is to create awareness on the reality of quick food deliveries.

“Stay away from such kinds of food. Take some time out to prepare your own meals at home. If you can’t, then order from a credible place where you know or can see food being prepared in front of you.” The gig worker warned that consuming reheated frozen food can shorten one’s life expectancy.

The video garnered over 284.5k views. Netizens debated in the comments section. While some agreed with the perils of consuming frozen food, others pointed out that it helps bring convenience and reduce labour. Others pointed out that consuming such food once in a while was okay, but not to make it a habit.
