Kolkata Flights For Durga Puja Are Getting More Expensive
Flights to Kolkata for Durga Puja 2026 are becoming very expensive because a huge number of people are trying to fly home for celebrations at the same time. According to The Times of India, ticket prices for flights around October 16, when Durga Puja starts, have jumped 71% compared to regular days.
An analysis done by TOI shows that across 53 domestic routes connecting Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Pune, a seat to Kolkata for October 16 is priced exceptionally high compared to a seat for the next week or next month.
Reportedly, the median fare across the seven routes to Kolkata was ₹8,712 for the next day and ₹8,259 for the following week. The same-day fare was ₹9,140. However, the median fare for a flight to Kolkata on October 16 stood at ₹14,117! The day is considered significant because it coincides with the beginning of Durga Puja this year.

What Can A Traveller Do?
According to The Times of India, Chennai to Kolkata saw the steepest rise at 94.9%. Mumbai follows at 78.1%, Bengaluru at 76.5% and Hyderabad at 65.3%. Pune is up at 26.2%, while for Delhi and Ahmedabad, it is 22.2% and 6%, respectively. In simple language, there is a high demand for flights to Kolkata in October.
Ticket costs automatically rise as more seats on the plane get sold out. Currently, flying to Kolkata next week is considered cheaper than flying during the Durga Puja week in October. A traveller can save money by flying on the day after the festival starts, like October 17 or 18. They can also keep an eye on flight prices and book a plane ticket whenever the price gets relatively low.
