“An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” This is a saying many of us grew up listening to, right? But can you say the same about apple juice? Apparently, a Harvard and Stanford-trained doctor has now claimed that eating whole apples might be a much healthier option, as it comes with many benefits. Here’s why!
Why Are Whole Apples Better Than Apple Juice?

Apples have countless benefits. They are packed with antioxidants, improve digestion, lower colon cancer risk, and even support better liver health. But yes, it is always advised to eat whole apples rather than drink their juice. Whole apples contain essential fibre in their skin that helps prevent blood sugar spikes. The juice has vitamins, but it is also quite high in sugar and can promote weight gain.
This means that “an apple a day keeps the doctor away” may be true, but the same cannot be said for apple juice. A Harvard and Stanford-trained gastroenterologist, Saurabh Sethi, has taken to Instagram to shed light on this fruit’s benefits. According to him, apples are rich in pectin fibre, which feeds beneficial gut microbes and helps reduce inflammation in the body.

Eat This Antioxidant-Rich Fruit With Its Peel
According to Dr Sethi, eating apples with the peel is far more beneficial. This means that when we use apples for juice, we often remove the peel, right? And with that, we also lose many of this fruit’s real benefits. The doctor also advised washing apples with water and baking soda before consuming them. Apparently, this method is one of the most effective ways to remove surface pesticides, wax, dirt, and residues.
So, the next time you find yourself reaching out for a glass of apple juice, keep this advice in mind. Yes, that glass might have two to three apples in it, but without the fibre, the juice can cause energy crashes and increase cravings later in the day. Not just apples, it is always recommended to choose whole fruits instead of juices.
