Emergency Quota Introduced In Vande Bharat Sleeper Express, But It’s Not Open To Everyone!

We have some good news for all travellers! The Ministry of Railways has revised the emergency quota rules for the Vande Bharat Sleeper and Amrit Bharat-II trains. In a letter addressed to all zonal railways, the Railway Board announced that emergency quotas will now be introduced in these new trains. However, there is a catch, scroll on to know more about this.

Railways Rolls Out Emergency Quota In Vande Bharat Sleeper

According to The Indian Express, Indian Railways has decided to introduce emergency quotas in Vande Bharat Sleeper and Amrit Bharat-II trains. The number of berths under this facility will vary between weekdays and weekends and will be allocated according to coach categories. However, the facility will not be available to everyone and will be reserved for specific categories of passengers.

Zonal Railways will have the authority to periodically review the emergency quota and the fixed quotas in these trains based on demand patterns and seat availability, and make necessary adjustments accordingly.

First AC will have four seats reserved for emergency quota on normal days, six on weekends. As for Second AC, 20 emergency quota seats will be reserved on normal days, and 30 on weekends. Similarly, Third AC will have 24 seats on normal days, and 42 on weekends. Passengers will be able to reserve the seats during the advance reservation period or before the date of booking closes–whichever is earlier.

With this new introduction, both these trains will now have five types of quotas– Emergency, Ladies, Persons with Disabilities (PwD), Senior Citizens and Duty Pass. It is to be noted that no other reservation quota will be applicable in these trains, including Reservation against Cancellation (RAC).
