Recently, a video by @nkk_123 from the Delhi-Katra Highway has gone viral online. In the video, a man talking about road safety points to a crack on the highway. He puts his hand inside the crack and shows the white material coming out of it claiming it’s “thermocol”. The clip quickly went viral, with many people mocking the authorities for allegedly using thermocol in the highway.
Many social media users claimed that the authorities had used thermocol technology to build the highway, raising concerns about public safety. But here’s the twist! The video and these claims are false, and the NHAI later clarified the truth.

What Is The Truth?
After the video went viral, the NHAI took to its official X handle to clarify the truth behind the claims, writing, “The authority said that the claim about thermocol being used in the construction of the Delhi–Amritsar–Katra Expressway is misleading and technically incorrect.”
According to the NHAI, the white material seen in the viral video is not thermocol used to build the highway. It is actually a compressible filler placed at the expansion joint near the crash barrier and friction slab. This material helps the bridge expand and shrink as temperatures change. The authority clarified that it is a standard part of bridge construction and does not affect the highway’s strength or safety in any way.
