Fire Erupts In SLR Coach Of New Delhi-Chennai Train Near Nagpur; No Injuries Reported

A coach of Train No. 12616, operating from New Delhi to Chennai, caught fire shortly after departing from Nagpur railway station on Tuesday morning. The train was on its way to Sindhi Railway Station in Wardha when smoke was detected in the rear coach. The incident, reportedly, took place at around 11:09 AM. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.

Coach Of New Delhi-Chennai Train Catches Fire

According to Mid-day, the New DelhiChennai (Tambaram) Grant Trunk Express departed from Nagpur in the morning. While it was somewhere between Sindhi and Tuljapur stations, smoke was detected in the last guard coach of the train. It was the SLR (Seating-cum-Luggage Rake) coach, and the train was in motion when the smoke was noticed.

As per Central Railway spokesperson Sanjay Muley, as soon as the fire was detected, the train was immediately stopped as a precautionary measure. Railway staff then swiftly detached the affected coach to prevent the flames from spreading to the rest of the rake.

Here’s What We Know So Far

The report further stated that the Railway staff swiftly used fire extinguishers available on board to control the blaze and the fire brigade was called. As per the last update, efforts to control the fire are still underway. Thankfully, all passengers in the train and the coach were safely disembarked, and there have been no injuries reported so far.

So far, the reason for the fire on the New Delhi-Chennai train is not known. A detailed investigation will be launched soon to know more about this incident. According to NDTV, the train is expected to resume its journey shortly, without the affected coach.
