Allen Park, located on Park Street in Kolkata, is all set to break centuries of tradition. The park, which is known for its winter lights and annual Christmas and New Year celebrations, is all set to host a Durga Puja for the first time in over 200 years. Here’s what the organisers are planning for the festival.
Durga Puja To Be Hosted In Kolkata’s Park Street
Kolkata is known for its Durga Puja celebrations, but there is one place in the city, Allen Park on Park Street, that has celebrated only Christmas and New Year. But this year, in 2026, it is all set to break the tradition by hosting a festive gathering for Durga Puja celebrations. According to The Times of India, the Puja is being organised by Kolkata Sanatani Sangha.
They are planning a celebration rooted in Bengali traditions, with Sanatani rituals, cultural programmes, aarti and prasad distribution. Performances showcasing Baul music and traditions from Purulia, Bankura, North Bengal and other parts of Bengal will also be a part of the festive gathering. Moreover, a grand evening aarti similar to Varanasi’s Ganga Aarti is also planned from Chaturthi to Dashami.

Theme To Showcase Dance Forms Of Lord Shiva’s Tandava
According to India TV News, the theme of the pandal is very unique. It will showcase various dance forms of Lord Shiva’s Tandava. The Durga Puja will be inaugurated by CM Suvendu Adhikari on October 11. You would like to know that Allen Park on Park Street has long been associated with grand Christmas and New Year festivals. The venue hosted the Park Street Carnival in 2007. After that, the Bengal government took over the event and renamed it the Christmas Festival.
Over the years, the festival became a very important part of Kolkata’s celebrations in December. And now, the new addition of Durga Puja gives people one more reason to celebrate in Allen Park. The first Puja here is expected to draw a large crowd, which could be a challenge.
