16 Flights Cancelled At Delhi Airport Due To Dense Fog; IndiGo, Air India Issue Advisories

Delhi fog

On Tuesday, 16 flights were cancelled at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport due to dense fog. With further reduced visibility forecast across Delhi and North India, more flight disruptions are expected. Several airlines and the Delhi Airport have also issued advisories for the same. Here’s more about this.

Dense Fog Causes Flight Cancellations At Delhi Airport

According to The New Indian Express, 16 flights were cancelled at the Delhi Airport due to dense fog conditions on Tuesday. The airport authorities confirmed that eight arrivals and eight departures were cancelled. However, they mentioned that despite “fog and chilly weather, visibility was quite good.” This resulted in fewer cancellations and no diversions at the airport.

The airport, along with airlines such as IndiGo and Air India, issued travel advisories as fog and reduced visibility were forecast for Delhi and parts of northern India on Wednesday.

Beyond Delhi, dense fog is also likely to disrupt air travel in several other Northern cities. IndiGo has asked passengers flying in and out of cities like Hindon (Ghaziabad), Chandigarh, Varanasi, Ranchi, Jaipur, Indore, Udaipur, Bhopal, and Kolkata to stay updated and check flight statuses before heading to the airports.

More Foggy Days Ahead

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted foggy conditions till January 11 in Delhi-NCR. Keeping this in mind, the Delhi Airport issued an advisory, “Flight operations continue to be in CAT III. Both arrivals and departures are taking place, though some flights may experience delays or disruptions. Passengers are requested to contact their respective airlines for the latest flight information.”

During this period, the IMD predicted that Delhi’s maximum temperature would range between 18°C and 20°C, while the minimum temperature would hover between 6°C and 8°C.
