Foodies, These 5 Simple Tips By A Chef Can Help You Order Better At Restaurants

Ordering food at restaurants

Do you also find it tough when it comes to ordering food at restaurants? Because honestly, it is a very common problem. There are countless things on the menu, and we often get confused about which dish might taste good. To make it easier for you, a chef has now explained simple ways to order food at restaurants. Keep in mind that these tips come from a professional and might just help you order the best dish from the menu.

Chef Shares Easy Tips For Ordering Better At Restaurants

Udy, or @chef.hyena, a chef and founder of Audrey’s Cafe in Kolkata serving fresh bakes and Korean food, has now listed some easy tips to order better at restaurants on his Instagram account. His video, called “a chef’s guide to order better at restaurants”, might just be the thing you need for your next outing to eat good food. According to Udy, if the menu has 10 kinds of fried rice, order the cheapest one because chances are they are all going to taste the same.

His second point made a lot of sense. If a menu at a restaurant has 100 items, that is a “red flag”. The reason? According to him, no kitchen in the world can execute that much food well. Honestly, we agree with this point, though many people might have contrasting opinions about it.

Avoid Fancy Words, Overpriced Food & More

Udy then shared a third tip for ordering better at restaurants, which is about fancy ingredients. If you see words like confit, microgreens, arugula, guacamole, or parmesan, strip them out and read the dish again. It will suddenly seem very ordinary. This point definitely makes sense. Many of us have experienced ordering a dish with fancy ingredients and then realising it was nothing extraordinary. He also said not to order a sandwich worth ₹700 because it is not worth it.

Chef’s last tip was not to ask for recommendations from servers because most of them are trained to push certain dishes. Instead, ask for bestsellers because most restaurants are known for one or two things, and everything else is just “noise”. Many netizens thanked the chef for this helpful and simple guide. One user wrote, “What you are saying is right, tried and tested,” while another comment read, “We love your honest opinion.”
