For The First Time, Odisha’s Puri Beach To Get Women Lifeguards; 25 Women To Undergo Training

Puri Beach, Odisha, is one of the most beautiful and safest beaches in India, but now it’s going to get even safer. For the very first time, Odisha will deploy women lifeguards at the beach as part of a new initiative to strengthen safety arrangements for tourists. Here’s what we know about this new development!

Puri Beach To Get Women Lifeguards

Located right on the beautiful Bay of Bengal, Puri Beach in Odisha, India, is loved by families, travellers and even religious pilgrims visiting Puri. The beach is famous for its bright, clean and golden-coloured sand and amazing views of the ocean.

According to The Times of India, Odisha is now planning to deploy women lifeguards for the first time at the beach to make it safer for tourists. Around 25 women have been selected for specialised training before they are deployed at the beach.

The selected candidates will undergo intensive training at the Odisha State Watermanship and Lifeguard Institute, which is located in Chandrabhaga near Puri. Here, these women lifeguards will be trained in skills to handle emergencies in the sea, rivers and swimming pools.

Women Lifeguards To Get Specialised Training

Having women lifeguards at a beach can be quite beneficial. Some swimmers, especially women and children, may feel more comfortable talking to women, asking for help or simply reporting a problem. According to The Times of India, this training programme will cover advanced life-saving techniques, including surf, open-water, underwater and swimming pool rescue.

The trainees will also get training in performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), first aid and emergency response techniques. After successfully completing the training, the women lifeguards will be issued licences by the National Institute of Watersports. The induction of women lifeguards at Puri Beach in Odisha will definitely help create a more inclusive rescue mechanism at the famous tourist hotspot.
