Recently, a vacation in Kerala has turned into a case of caution for travellers who booked a ‘perfect’ stay for themselves. Scroll down to know what exactly happened.
Woman Shares Munnar Airbnb Horror
A woman named Ritu Joon recently took to her X account to reveal what she described as a “worst-ever” stay booked via Airbnb. Located in Munnar, the property was reportedly booked through Airbnb for ₹36,000 for two days, but things didn’t go as planned, and their ‘perfect stay’ soon turned into a horror tale.
In the post, she described a series of issues that turned her stay into a nightmare. She said the property was completely unhygienic and was filled with leeches and cockroaches. It just does not end there. The property had a non-working gas stove, fungus-covered curtains, damaged non-stick cookware, and even flickering lights; the list was quite long.
She explained that, despite booking the property for two days, they decided to leave after a day because of the property’s condition. What made the story viral online were the images she shared about the property. The images showed unhygienic interiors, bad kitchen conditions, and even leeches in the bathroom.
As per the post, when she reached out to Airbnb’s customer support, she was informed that there wasn’t enough evidence available to prove a bad experience. To resolve the matter, she was offered a ₹1,500 refund. After the frustrating encounter with the customer support, she shared and warned online, “If you book from Airbnb, don’t expect any support if things go wrong.”
Airbnb Initiates Full Refund
As soon as she posted the tweet, it quickly went viral, and social media users didn’t hold back from sharing their opinions. One user wrote, “If Airbnb is listing properties on its platform, it should at least ensure a basic quality check. If they aren’t accountable for such poor standards, then who is?”
Addressing the incident, Airbnb wrote, “Airbnb requires hosts to meet our ground rules on accuracy and cleanliness, and guests can contact us 24/7 in the rare event they encounter an issue. We have provided the guest with a full refund, and we are taking action to address this with the host.”
